Once again, no pictures...sorry. But, it's sort of pointless to take pictures of people sitting in the dark watching a movie, isn't it?
We had our movie night at ICF on Friday. We watched a film I love, but realized about 1/2 way through is REALLY sad at the end. Yes, we cried...yes, it gave us all something to ponder, and yes, it connects with Easter in an odd sort of way.
The film is "Pay It Forward" starring Kevin Spacey and Helen Hunt. Powerful film which shows the more challenging side of life in the U.S. It's about a boy, Trevor, (Helen Hunt's son in the film) who is challenged by his 7th grade social studies teacher (Kevin Spacey) to come up with an idea to change the world and put it into action.
Trevor takes it very seriously, and comes up with "pay it forward". "You have to do something REALLY big for someone, for three people...something they can't do for themselves. And that person cannot pay you back...they have to pay it FORWARD to three other people."
As He hung on the cross, He gave us everything...His life, His sacrifice, His death, and eternal life through His resurrection. Jesus did something REALLY big! In fact, it's the biggest thing someone could ever do for someone else. And we cannot "pay Him back"...in fact, in Matthew 28, Jesus commands us to "pay it forward" by going into all the world and make disciples.
As followers of Jesus, we are called to "pay it forward"....and as we are led by the Holy Spirit, we can give individuals the GREATEST gift they could ever receive: Jesus Himself....and then THEY too can pay it forward....
