Teaching after Christmas break and before the end of the semester is somewhat challenging for me. So, I pull out the books of idioms which are fun for the students, and for me....some of their favorites:
Hit the nail on the head.
Agree to disagree.
Take the bull by the horns.
To get a clue.
To take a stand.
Monkey business.
These expressions we native speakers take for granted are challenging for some of my students...I got to thinking about how we communicate the message of God's love to people.
Do we use such Christian slang that people "outside the holy huddle" can't really grasp what we're saying? May 2009 be a year when God gives us His words to communicate His message that comes not with clever words, but with power!
